MEN'S TRACK & FIELD NATIONALLY RANKED

Paramus, NJ - Bergen's Athletic Department received wonderful news about their strong Men's Track & Field team.  In week #1.  The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has ranked Bergen men's team #7 in the nation.  This is a jump from last year's first week ranking where The Bulldogs were ranked 11th in the nation.   The team also received ranking in the East Region, which they are currently ranked 3rd.  

So far, Bergen has qualified four men for nationals in their first week.  Sophomore, Connor McGillick (Saddle Brook, NJ), has qualified for nationals in the 10K event.  Currently, he is ranked #1 in the 10,000 Meter race (36.13.57).  Connor is also ranked 17th in the nation in the 1500 Meter race (4:31.23) and 12th in the in the 5000 Meter race (17:08.57).  Freshman, Mateusz Wierzba (Garfield, NJ) had a great start to his collegiate career by qualifying for nationals in both the Long Jump (6.66m) and Triple Jump (13.02m).  He is currently ranked #2 in the nation in the Long Jump and also ranked 4th in the Triple Jump.  Freshman, Connor Best (Township of Washington, NJ), also had a tremendous start to his college athletic career by qualifying for nationals in the Discuss event with a throw of 40.14m.   He is currently ranked #2 in the nation in the Discuss event.  Best also is close to qualifying for nationals in the Shot Put, which he is currently ranked #7 int he nation (10.40m).  He is also ranked 17th in the nation in the Javelin event (31.59m).  Freshman, Muhammad Ombali (New Milford, NJ), also had a big week in his first collegiate meet by qualifying for nationals in the 110 Meter Hurdle race (16.57).  He is currently ranked 7th in the nation in 110 Meter Hurdles.  Muhammad is also ranked 41st in the 100 Meter race (12.41).

Bergen has a few more men close to qualifying for nationals.  Bergen looks to go to nationals with a good core this year and improve on last year's national's finish.

Freshman, Shaheed Brimley-Thompson (Paterson, NJ), is currently ranked 30th in the nation and in the 100 Meters event (12.13).  Shaheed is also ranked 12th in the nation in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:03.48).

Freshman and 1st Team All-Region Cross Country runner, Christopher Loughman (Dumont, NJ), is ranked 10th in the nation in the 5000 Meters race (16:57.94). 

Sophomore, Justin Jusino (Dumont, NJ), is currently ranked 33rd in the nation and in the 100 Meters event (12.19).

Freshman, Kacper Wrobel (Saddle Brook, NJ), is currently ranked 15th in the nation in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:05.42).  Kacper is also a very good jumper and is ranked 22nd in the nation in the Long Jump (5.44m).

Freshman, Syed Mahmood (Spring Valley, NY), also a jumper is ranked 11th in the nation in the Triple Jump event (11.53m) and 20th in the Long Jump (5.53m). 

Freshman, Davon Peters (Teaneck, NJ), who was added late to the team and could look to finish strong in the jumping events was ranked 14th in the Triple Jump (11.05m).

Three freshmen are ranked nationally in the 400 Meter race; ranked 31st Tariq LaCourt (Fort Lee, NJ), ranked 42nd David Hunter (Ramsey, NJ) & ranked 44th Joe Lopez (Hackensack, NJ).

Three freshman are ranked nationally in the 800 Meter race; ranked 31st Joe Lopez (Hackensack, NJ), ranked 36th Nikko Reyes (Bergenfield, NJ), & ranked 45th David Hunter (Ramsey, NJ).

Bergen's next meet will have them travel to TCNJ on Saturday, April 8th.   Go Bulldogs!!!
