Bergen Men’s Basketball Opens Season with Impressive Win Over Community College of Philadelphia
Paramus, N.J. – The Bergen Community College men's basketball team tipped off its 2025-26 season in strong fashion with a 91–84 victory over the Community College of Philadelphia on Thursday evening at home.
Sophomore guard Jayden Rivera led the Bulldogs with a game-high 30 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc and going 9-of-14 from the free throw line. Rivera added six assists and five rebounds in a standout performance that set the tone for Bergen's offense.
Freshman Jarris Bertram made an immediate impact off the bench, scoring 18 points on 4-for-4 shooting from three-point range, while Evan Meberg contributed 14 points and four rebounds. Kross Ford and Xavier Townes each added 10 points, helping the Bulldogs maintain balance across the lineup.
Bergen held a 47–34 lead at halftime and withstood a late rally from Philadelphia to secure the win. The Bulldogs shot an efficient 44% from the field and 45% from three-point range, while also tallying 22 assists as a team.
On the defensive end, Bergen forced eight turnovers and came away with seven steals, including two from Jaheim Best, who also led the team with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Head Coach Luke Gomez praised the team's effort in the season opener, saying, "We shared the ball well and showed great energy. It's a solid first step, and we're looking forward to building from here."
